This is a rather good question! Of course, McDonalds are a company and they want to sell their products, so it makes sense that they would want to build more restaurants. But sometimes it seems a bit hypocritical – I think the London Olympics includes the world’s biggest McDonalds restaurant, which doesn’t exactly send out the best message!

Unfortunately, although humans are good at co-operating, we often don’t want to! Everyone wants something different, and so people conflict over what should be done. Sometimes people with more money get their way unfairly, but judging by your question it sounds like you know what’s good for your health and how to stay that way! Maybe when you’re older you’ll help make others understand about this sort of thing too?

I think I’m A Scientist very recently had a nutrition zone all about this sort of thing. You could be researching the future of public health one day!

Mike’s answer is excellent so I won’t repeat everything he said. I just wanted to add a few points.

      1) It’s ok to have a McDonalds as a treat every now and then. It’s when you eat lots of junk food that you have a problem

      2) If you start to do things like ban McDonalds you run into the debate about how much control the government should have over people’s decisions. What do you think? Do you think the government should be able to ban junk food shops?
