It’s actually quite cold! Mars is further from the sun than Earth is, and on top of that it doesn’t have an atmosphere, which means any heat it gets from the sun quickly evaporates at night.
I had a look for some exact figures – the warmest the planet’s surface gets is about 27 degrees, which is a warm summer’s day in the UK. The coldest it gets, though, is -147 degress. That’s three times as cold as the north pole!
