• Question: How many volcanoes does earth have?

      The exact number of volcanoes is not really known because there are many underneath the sea that we might have no idea about. It also depends on how you define a volcano because there are plenty of small smoky holes which release volcanic gases but may not necessarily look as impressive as the conical volcano that you would usually think of when you say that word.

      Additionally, many hills have formed as a result of past volcanic activity and these are no longer active volcanoes – would these extinct volcanoes count? So I guess I can’t help with anything more accurate than “lots, some still active and some long extinct”.
