      Current estimates put the beginning of the earth at 4.54 billion years ago. But the atmosphere was initially very hostile to life so that isn’t thought to have formed until much later, with initial forms of life being very cimple single-celled organisms and complex multicellular organisms arising around 580 million years ago.

      Yup Blanka’s got this one.

      I had to look it up and found something quite cool – type “how old is the earth” into Google and it comes up with the answer in big bold numbers/letters

      Sometimes (only sometimes, mind) Google does know the answer!
