There are lots of jobs out there that allow you to work with animals in one way or another. It depends on what you want to do.

If you enjoy caring for them and looking after them on a day to day basis you could work in a boarding kennels/cattery (where people put their animals when they go off on holiday) or work on a farm with the animals there or work as an animal care asistant at a veterinary practice.

If you are interested in looking after ill animals you could work at a wildlife shelter (although not many of these are paid jobs) or work as a veterinary nurse or a vet.

If you are interested in working with more unusual animals then you could work in a zoo or at an aquarium.

There are a lot of different types of jobs although some of them are very competitive as lots of people want to do them. (It’s not surprising really, working with animals is a lot of fun 🙂 )

Lots of them. If you want to look after them, and are not too squamish you can be a vet, although it does take a lot of hard work and study, but I am sure Emma can tell you about that. You could also work as an animal carer in all sorts of different places – zoo, circus, kennels.

I guess the other side of your question might touch on the fact that many scientists do experiments with animals. I have never done this and don’t particularly want to, but I can see that it is an important aspect of research. For those of you who are squamish or worried about it, be assured that there is a huge move towards the need to reduce the amount of experiments that are done, replace use of animals (using for instance simulations of tissue culture) and refine the experiment so that animals suffer the least amount possible. But there are some things that simply cannot be done without animal models.
