      I’m not sure what technology is like at the moment, but the last time I saw an interactive whiteboard it worked like this:

      The whiteboard is made up of two layers of thin material, separated by a tiny gap. When you press on the gap, the two layers touch each other and an electrical current travels between them, like closing a switch in a circuit! Sensors can detect where this happened on the board.

      They might not work like this any more. Some whiteboards use infra-red technology, I think, which is similar to how your TV remote works, or the Nintendo Wii controllers!

      Once again, I am learning from reading Mike’s answer as I wouldn’t have known where to start. So it’s effectively the same as a touch-screen…?
