Computers are made of lots of different materials, but one material that we use a lot in making computers is silicon. Silicon is very good at conducting electricity, and has lots of special and useful properties that make it perfect for putting in circuitboards and microchips.

All sorts of materials go into computers though! Aluminium, gold, copper, plastics, arsenic, gallium… it’s a very complicated machine!
