Parrots have lots of cells and most of those cells are very similar to the cells in our bodies (although obviously we don’t have feather producing cells!)

One interesting thing about parrots’ cells (and other birds as well):
-human red blood cells don’t have a nucleus (Imagine a boiled egg – most cells are like this. Human red blood cells are like a boiled egg that is only made up of the white). This is true of all mammals. One theory behind this is that if there is no nucleus (the yolk bit of the egg) then the cell is better shaped to carry oxygen around the body.
-strangely, birds red blood cells do have a nucleus (the yolk bit). In theory this should mean their cells are not as good at carrying oxygen but they seem to cope just fine!
