Good question! There’s two answers – what our physical bodies were, and what our consciousness was.

Our consciousness – the ‘voice in our head’, our way of thinking – was nothing, really (at the very least, we have no evidence it was anything else). It’s a bit like the computer you’re using now – what did it compute when it was in pieces in a factory? We wouldn’t say it computed anything really, because it wasn’t a finished working computer yet! The same goes for our consciousness, I think. We don’t really know, of course, and some people might disagree with what I’ve said. It’s a big question!

As for our physical bodies, all the molecules that make us up were scattered across the world! We’re made of bits of the food we eat, the water we drink, and if you go back further than that we’re made up of all the tiny chunks of dust and rock that were floating around the solar system before it became earth. Pretty cool!

I don’t think I can answer this better than Mike has 🙂
