      Earth years are (just over) 365 days because this is how long it takes the Earth to go around the sun.

      But not all calendars have 365 days in a tear. There is a huge number of them, based on various religions and other aspects of everyday life. I know wikipedia is cheating a bit (and noyt always 100% reliable) but it does give you a good idea of how many types of calendar there are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_calendars

      Our is the Gregorian calendar, introduced in 1582 and the one most commonly used in the Western world.
