      Sorry, madsmith98, I have just realised that somehow I must have pasted the answer to the wrong question here and only just realised it! Ooops, we’re not infallible. I apologise.

      The DNA that you extract from fruit and vegetables is basically the particular DNA that makes a strawberry a strawberry or an onion an onion (you get the gist). The DNA contains information on which proteins must be expressed to make the plant look like it should. When we do the extracting in the classroom, what you end up seeing is this white fluffy mass, which is the DNA that is visible between two layers – the water layer and an alcohol layer, because its density is such that it is between these two liquids.
